Show location that a tracked email was opened based on ip address
And it will be interesting to know exactly who has opened an e-mail send if there’s many recipients for it
This is stupid.
I am not sure this is a priority. All I need to know that the email was read. I don’t want no extra NSA features.
I am confused. Was it not already possible to see which recipients opened the e-mail, in case there were multiple recipients? Or was that feature paired down in the last year of me not using it?
unfortunatly not. only the numbers of times but not who opened it and how many times he did it
I don’t need the location, but I agree with Mathieu that knowing which recipients opened the email, how often, and when would be really useful. It really helps with following up people. Professionally, I find the read receipts one of the most useful parts of Newton, but improving them would only increase that usefulness.
Please ensure that any feature enhancements to email tracking features are delivered under a feature toggle so users can opt-in or opt-out. I love Newton app, but a key part of that is to be able to turn off “read receipts”.
I’d argue that the feature should be renamed to email tracking, as these are not RFC compliant read receipts, instead it is in the insertion of a tracking pixel. Under new privacy laws, such as the GDPR, an individual has a right to know who is tracking emails they receive - the current implementation is delivered secretively, which is in violation. Further enhancement of this to include geo-location data, would be problematic.
Newton use to have a feature where it told you who opened it, when they opend it, and what device they opened it from. That’s good eniough, but obviously an IP address would be great
IP tracking is not really reliable as many people use VPNs amd other measures to spoof true IP. There really is no valid reason to ask for IP tracking.
@Maitrikvk does this mean the feature will include IP address as well? 😮
No just the location.
Since location is derived from the IP address it should be ok.
Thanks for all of these informations.
Have you worked on the possibility of knowing who (when there are multiple recipients) opened an email ?
I mean when offices of many recipients are in the same location, it will be difficult to get the confirmation of reading is only based on the location.
@Maitrikvk Thanks. Appreciate the fact that IP address itself won’t be reported.
@Maitrikvk Doesn’t it would be bad for privacy as not you know my current location?
