Server Issues (Owner Here)#835

Hey everyone, apologies for the lag in reply here. The issue was very sporadic and did not effect everyone until this weekend. We are having some issues with our servers on Amazon and are in the process of fixing it. I expect it should be fixed in the next day or so. I know this is super frustrating for everyone, I use the app myself ever day. We did not close down or anything of the sort, there is simply a configuration problem server side that is very complex and is taking longer to fix than expected. Appreciate your patience and again, very sorry for the downtime

What’s up, just purchased my license and nothing’s working? Newton used to be really good. Please let me know what’s going on and if you can’t deliver, please issue a refund asap!

Yeah annoying there’s no dates here. We are working on the issue this week. Trust me it’s just as disruptive to my own workflow as it is yours. I use Newton daily and this is annoying the shit out of me as a user myself

Jerome, we didn’t even make any changes to the code. The servers just suddenly stopped responding. So there wasn’t anything to roll back. Sorry if that context wasn’t clear

I agree it is all frustrating… but the only true comparison is SuperHuman. But it is like 5 times the cost.

I’m a developer as well and reality is that once they get it squared away, we will be set again for a while.

At first I thought it was just dead… but the fact that they are aware and pin pointing the options is a great sign.

You think, well they can just open source it. But then we risk a group changing what makes Newton so great. I would be totally happy for it to not change a single bit. Only feature I wished it had was a scan to pdf using camera. But if a group would take it and make it into their vision, then it will just become whatever all the other apps are.

Currently working with the Superhuman team to provide existing Newton subscribers better pricing for anyone interested.

After reading through this forum during the outage it’s obvious that there are a lot of great people here who share the same love for Newton as I do. As someone who owns a company in the IT space and deals with cybersecurity and end user support, It’s also obvious that the current state of the app is at a point that although I hope it makes a turn around, the team behind the scenes is not able to maintain the quality and security we all expect. I cannot trust an app or company with access to my e-mails (and neither should you) when this type of incident has not been handled in a way that I would have expected based on my professional experience.

I have no issue open sourcing the front end apps. I’m slightly concerned that open sourcing it will make us more open to security issues but if the community is there it might also make it better

can some one please post an update with the date. As of 9/23/2023 I am still unable to renew my subscription and sync my email. I love the app and hope it’s resolved soon!!

There definitely someone working on the servers as now the updates from outlook are not working anymore. Just tested re-authorized no new mails to low-priority newsletter or social
Inbox somewhat gets some emails even before re-authorization.

Just like every other program you’ll have issues with oauth2 or 2fa calls. Although you may not have made any changes to the backend, MS are continually developing servers. You need adapt your fetch calls to keep on top of changes

@justin, would you consider sharing more details on the backend infrastructure to see if anyone in the community would be willing to join your team to get newton the support you need… perhaps then if anyone wanted to sink their time into Newton they could email / DM you directly to talk about it?
