Here’s an email I sent to NewtonHQ:
Newton broken on iOS 17 and iPadOS 17. I get notifications that emails are hitting, but the app crashes upon opening. Once in a while, I am fast enough to log out, but that does not fix it. Deleting and reinstalling the app does not help.
There’s also an issue with MacOS Sonoma. Newton fails to pull down emails. The only way to fix the situation is to Update the password. I have both a Gmail and Exchange with my employer and it’s broken on both.
We pay good money for Newton and you guys do little to earn our money. Please fix these situations. There have been Developer and Public Beta for a long time and it would appear you have done nothing to keep current with the various Apple OSs.
The app is over dude, no support, no bug fixes
The issue on Mac isn’t the OS, it’s our servers. Good news is we just identified the problem and are working on a fix. I have an engineer patching the ios17 bug right now
@Justin Mitchell thank you for the encouraging news. Definitely looking forward to seeing that happen. I have a somewhat adjacent request to ask of you. Is there a script available? That will wipe a macOS hard drive clean of Newton so that there can be a totally fresh install? Secondly, how would you White clean, an iOS device for a fresh install of Newton ?
iOS just delete the app. On Mac I can give you some instructions that are super complex so let me see if I can make a simple script to handle that for you
@Justin Mitchell I have not had success just deleting Newton in MacOS or iOS. In iOS, as soon as delete and re-install, my login information is still there. The badge is just as it was and it seems to happen even before I type in my login information. I have an older MacBook Pro, running Ventura. Newton stopped working on it months ago. It’s not my main Mac. But if I delete Newton and reinstall, it still crashes on startup. If I create a clean user, it works. My theory is that some plist files are corrupt in MacOS and whatever constitutes a plist file in iOS.
Deleting the app does not help, same issue with crashing on start
@ianholmes Don’t waste your time man. If they wanted to fix it, it would have been fixed by now. But it’s not.
The sad thing, that they don’t even refound anyone.
The predictive email works on MacOS, not on iOS for me. On iOS, I get prompted to re-auth password, but doing so does not help.
Justin any update related to your poblems with server??? When we can expect fix???
Yes we’ve deployed a fix to staging that so far is working fantastic. If testing goes good we will roll it out to production
Thank you Justin
@Justin Mitchell Over the weekend, my personal gmail account seems to be updating the same in Newton as it does in Apple Mail. However, my two work emails, one a gmail, and the other an Exchange are not working. I might even say they are working less well than before as re-auth or logging out and logging back in are not helping all that much. Here’s hoping the fix you believe is coming will restore all functioning.
My outlook email account got automatically de authenticated and now upon re-authentification, there’s constantly a fail message saying admin has disabled EWS. But nothing has changed from the admin part. Anybody knows how to solve this? Thanks!
@Justin Mitchell The darkness before the dawn? None of my instances of Newton, MacOS, iOS, iPadOS are pulling any emails; neither re-auth nor logging out/in does anything. Is the server repair that seemed promising, coming? You seemed bullish 2 days ago, but here in real world, no so much.
@Justin sorry but this too much for me. I have requested refund and so far no answer. Could you please let me know what should I do to get my money back? Thanks
