Newton shutting down#899

Well my friends, we are here once again. Hoping the owners release the code and let the community take over as they said they would a while back.

I also thought that, but these people were not able to solve and maintain the app, I don’t think they want to release the code, at least they killed this app and the scam finally ends for the poor people who are still being charged for this absurd subscription, I never intend to pay for Newton in my life, even if they revive it.

The way they went out was horrible. I still think the app is one of the best, with bug fixes, and some UI polishing, the app would be fine without much of else. I had to call my bank a while back to stop payment, if it wasn’t for the owners I think this app would do well.

I’m willing to take the challenge and have resources in tech that I can tap into.

I would 100% partner to take over the CODE and invest in a fix. I have tried Spark, Shortwave, SuperHuman, Helpwise, and AirMail… they all SUCK compared to the easy in filing and sortinf in Newton. Red receipts are stringer here too.

Search needed refinement and the code needs a shift to be more nimble for iOS and Andriod updates. However, I feel minor investment and a reasonable subscription price can sustain this app.

anyone here desiring to make that offer together feel free to HMU>

@Mjsavage there might not be Newton code available, but there is another great email client, and its code was completely open sourced on Github. Nylas N1. It does not have an android/iOS app unfortunately, but can be developed. I am happy to partner to help you brand/build this email client, including business/marketing as a passive partner. :)

I agree completely. Newton had immense potential. Its sleek, clean design combined with useful, easy-to-navigate features made it a favorite of mine. As a developer working across macOS, Android, and Windows, I’ve even explored certain repositories on my private Git account that were once released by a Newton team member. I’ve been using these as inspiration to build something similar, but with additional features that others have requested.

One thing I could never get behind was their pricing model. Their “free” version was so limited it was almost pointless—restricted email accounts? Really? In a world where so many free email clients offer unlimited accounts and similar features, this felt like a misstep. But there was something about the way Newton worked that just clicked with me, which is why I’m developing an email client (currently hosted on GCP and GitHub) that aims to combine the best of Newton and Edison Mail. I believe this could result in the “almost” perfect email application—one without the bloatware and unreasonable pricing.

If you’re interested in collaborating, feel free to reach out to me on Twitter @KitCoder3, Discord (kit.codes), or email at hello@sailr.co. I’m looking to create a dedicated Discord server where we can collaborate, whether you’re a senior developer, a UI/UX designer, or just someone passionate about improving email clients. Let’s work together to build the email application we all want!

I have no experience with coding, but Newton was by far må favorite mail client! Damn, I hope it can be revived somehow.
